a welcoming, affirming, justice-seeking congregation

The Flowers Today are in loving memory of Grace Searle McMurtry from her family.

Annual Reports have been emailed. There are some hard copies for anyone who would like one.

Seeing Red (and Orange and Yellow): Next Sunday, May 19th, is Pentecost—the church’s celebration of the descent of the Spirit upon the gathered community. As the story of Pentecost is told in the Book of the Acts, the apostles were gathered with people of many different lands and tongues, when suddenly the Holy Spirit appeared among them like tongues of fire, undoing the damage of Babel, suddenly making it possible for people of many different languages to understand one another. You are invited to come to worship next Sunday wearing one or more of the colours of the Spirit—red, orange or yellow. Let’s see if we can look the part of a people visited by the Spirit!

Immanuel’s Annual Congregational Meeting is this Wednesday, May 15, at 7:00 p.m. This will be a very important meeting, at which two important items will be considered by the congregation:

(a) Approval of a recommendation by the Immanuel Board that the rental agreement with Church Jehovah Nissi be discontinued, and

(b) Approval of a new governance structure recommended by the Immanuel Board.

These are very important issues, affecting the future life and work of the congregation. Your participation is valued and will be most welcome. The latest materials related to the proposed new governance structure are on the table in the Amen Corner. Please help yourself to a copy on your way out of worship this Sunday, or help us to save paper by signing up for an electronic copy of the materials. Care will be taken on Wednesday night to make the content of the proposal as accessible and understandable as possible. Come, bringing your questions and ideas, and we’ll talk about new ways of organizing our life together as we move into the future at Immanuel.

Governance Structure~ Should the proposed governance structure be approved at the annual meeting, a nomination process will begin as a first step in identifying and developing a transitional leadership team for next year. A training day is being planned for Saturday, June 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You may be nominated and asked to come to the training day so keep the date open.

The Immanuel Outreach Committee has designated the third Sunday of every month as “Stella Sunday”, and receive donations of food for Stella’s Sunday afternoon programming. Donations of high protein canned meats and beans, cheez whiz, jams, peanut butter, crackers, juice boxes, baby food, baby supplies and also cookies and buns would be greatly appreciated. The Outreach Committee will make sure these items get to Northend Stella. The next “Stella Sunday” is May 19th. Please help out if you can.
