a welcoming, affirming, justice-seeking congregation

Income Tax Receipts As of January 29, the 2013 income tax receipts have been distributed and/or mailed out. For the people who made out a cheque to the United Church of Canada or to the Emergency Response Typhoon – Haiyan Relief, receipts will be sent to you directly from the United Church of Canada.

Gift from the Estate of Rose AndersonRecently, our office received word that our long-time congregation member Rose Anderson, who died in February of last year, had left the congregation a gift of $500 in her will. This past week, we received a cheque from Rose’s estate. We are most grateful to have been remembered in this way, and will ensure that a card of appreciation will be sent to Rose’s family.

Creating a new Stewardship Team: Immanuel is in the process of naming 2-3 people to form a Stewardship team which will begin its work in March. We are asking you, the congregation, to participate by generating names of people you believe have the gifts, who should be invited to discern if this work is something they are called to do at this time. Please put up to 4 names on the small, coloured sheet of paper you have been given this morning and place it in the box in the AMEN corner. Alternately you can email: nanette, with names you would recommend to this process.

Stewardship CPR is an online “webinar” (sorry—we didn’t make up the word!) designed to help congregations get back on track with stewardship. This particular webinar will feature United Church minister and author Chris Levan and New Testament scholar John Dominic Crossan in a conversation about stewardship. The session in which Immanuel has asked to participate will be held this coming Tuesday evening. A group from our congregation plans to meet at the Centre for Christian Studies, 60 Maryland Street, at 5:45 Tuesday afternoon, to access the broadcast on a Smart Board (thank you to CCS!) and participate together. However, this webinar has attracted much more interest than the General Council office had anticipated, so there is some uncertainty about our ability to participate in the Tuesday evening time slot. If you are interested in participating (perhaps to discern your own involvement in Immanuel’s stewardship efforts), please sign the sheet in the Amen corner, so that we can contact you if there is a change.

A New New Testament: Due to the above Stewardship event, our Tuesday evening study group will not meet this Tuesday evening. We’ll meet again on February 11th at 6:30. Participants are asked to read “The Gospel of Truth” and “The Gospel of Mary,” together with their respective introductions.
