a welcoming, affirming, justice-seeking congregation

Winnipeg Harvest Many thanks to everyone who responded to our request re: Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank here at Immanuel. We are overwhelmed, we are good now for several months. Thanks to each of you for filling our requests.

Advent Season Ann Naylor, our Guiding Elder for Faith Formation and Lifelong Learning, has discovered (though has not read) a new book of daily meditations for Advent that may be of interest to you. The book, entitled, “Songs for the Waiting: Devotions Inspired by the Hymns of Advent”, has the potential for leading us in a meaningful way through the Advent season. Ann and Nancy are inviting you to purchase a book to work your way through the daily meditations at home during Advent, and to meet for half an hour, as your schedule allows, on Advent Sundays after worship, to discuss with other seekers the insights you’ve all gleaned from your reading through the past week. We would begin on the First Sunday in Advent to establish the pattern for reflection throughout the season. Choir members present and past, please consider yourselves specially invited to participate and share your insight into the Advent hymns.

Here is a link to the book: http://www.wjkbooks.com/Products/066426252X/songs-for-the-waiting.aspx Copies will be ordered through McNally Robinson Booksellers, but because they are available only on a “print on demand” basis and are coming from the U.S., the price is fixed at $20.99 (i.e., no bulk order rate is available). If you would like to participate but find the cost prohibitive, please speak to Nancy and we will ensure that a book is made available to you. Buying a book does not commit you to participating in the Sunday gatherings, so please feel free to order one for your personal reflection.

To ensure that the books arrive on time for the first day of Advent, we will submit the book order on November 1.

Newsletter Submissions are due by Thursday, November 10th. Please email to iuchurch@mymts.net or submit to Sharon in the office.
