Rev. Ha Na Park ~ Minister

Immanuel - Ha NaHa Na (she/her) is an ordained minister in The United Church of Canada. Ha Na started her ministry journey with us at Immanuel in September, 2017. Ha Na likes to tell us that she really feels at home at Immanuel and is grateful that she receives as much as she gives to the community. Ha Na witnesses that since becoming a part of our community as a newcomer and pastor, she has experienced a very warm welcome, hospitality and inclusion, and deep spiritual growth.

Ha Na migrated from Korea in 2007, with her partner, Min-Goo Kang, and infant son, Peace. In her new city of Vancouver, Ha Na eagerly pursued her M.Div at Vancouver School of Theology. Inspired by the words of a Japanese poet, “Struggle to be the Sun Again”, Ha Na moved away from the Korean cultural imperative for women to ‘reflect another’s light’ and sought to illuminate her own life with study, hard work, and ministry in her own church. Ha Na’s first church was on Vancouver Island; her move to Winnipeg took her further into the heart of Canada in many different ways. (Including real Canadian winters!) Ha Na has committed herself to deepening her understanding of intercultural ministry, decreasing racism and questioning white privilege in church, and decolonizing herself, her work and her theology. This year, she organized a small group to plan a two-day event, Queer and Faithful: Finding a Place Where Race, Queerness and Faith all Belong, An Interfaith Project of Reimagining an Affirming Space, which is scheduled to take place on May 25-26, 2019. Ha Na lives with her partner and two sons in St. Vital.

Ha Na is featured in Queer and Faithful (Winnipeg Free Press, May 18, 2019)
