Wednesday Study Group

This group has been meeting for about 35 years and there are members who have been with the group since the beginning but others have come and gone over the years.

The focus of study has been theology – feminist, liberation, etc – as well as current social issues and sometimes poetry. For the past few years we have been learning and studying about a new (to us) understanding of Canadian history, the impact of settlers and colonial practices on First Nations who have inhabited the land for centuries. Discussions are lively and enlightening. We have shared in Sunday worship services some of what we are discovering. We occasionally look at other study topics and have also organized a retreat on “hope” using reflections by writer/artist Jan Richardson.

We meet the second and fourth Wednesday of the month with a break over summer. We gather at 1pm for a social time then begin our study time at 1:30 to 3:30. There is no homework because we read together as a group and then talk about what we’ve read. The group itself has lots of resources amongst its members. We meet both at the church and in member’s homes. There are 12 in the group right now and we would welcome newcomers. Call the church office if you are interested in connecting with us.
